Approximate size is 24 X 20 oil on canvas. It depicts a young Afro American in the early 30s to 40,s passing the time by whittling. Probably a W.P.A. Project. His life mattered then as it does today. The artist is listed & was born & studied in Cincinnati early on . He then moved to the Bronx & lived his entire life there . He painted many local views as well locations & people . In his later years he resided with his daughter in Teaneck N.J. He was born about 1890 & died in the early 80,s. & left a fair size body of work. The painting is signed upper right S. Koblenz 1940.
