Macon Mayor "Machine Gun Ronnie" Thompson (1934-2020) "Just Put Your Faith In Jesus " Sheet Music. Copyright 1962; 18 1/4" X 12" Bi-fold in very good condition with light creasing and toning. Note: Thompson, a Colorful and Charismatic Gospel and country singer served as mayor of Macon GA 1967-1975. When racial rioting broke out in the South, Ronnie gave his police force submachine guns with "shoot to kill" orders. He moved a National Guard Tank onto a playground in a Black section of town to make sure his message was clear. When the municipal sanitation workers went on strike, he fired them all and used prison labor to collect garbage. He blocked Muhammed Ali from fighting in the Macon Coliseum because of Ali's Conscientious Objector status. Thompson ran for congress in 1972 and Governor in 1974 loosing soundly in both races. Before getting into politics Thompson was friends with many regional and national musicians including the Allman Brothers, Otis Redding and James Brown. Thompson once admitted that he wished he had stuck to music as a career.
