This is a rare oversized January 26th, 1955 program from the five-night, Middle Eastern Tour engagement of the GEORGE GERSHWIN, IRA GERSHWIN and DU BOSE HEYWARD American Folk Opera "PORGY AND BESS" at the Habimah Theatre in Tel Aviv, Israel. (The first European tour began October 9th, 1952 at London's Stoll Theatre and after five months of performances throughout Europe, the production returned to New York's Ziegfeld Theatre on March 10th, 1953 for 305 performances. The production then played a number of American cities followed in the fall of 1954 with an ambitious tour of South America, the Middle East and a second trip to Europe.) ..... DETAILS: The oversized eight page program measures 9 1/2" X 13 1/4" inches, was printed on a heavy brown stock and includes wonderful cover graphics, full production credits, cast list, synopsis of the story (in both English and Arabic) and promotional text, but no cast photos or bios ..... PLEASE NOTE: Due to the unusual size, the scanned pages have been cropped due to the limitations of my scanner. The margins are wider than shown ..... CONDITION: There is a heavy fold across the middle with tearing at the right edge of the fold, the start of splits at both the top and bottom seam, minor discoloration, light soiling and creasing along the bottom edge. Despite these flaws, this rare program will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard .....
