ORIGINAL BRYANT STUDIO FT WORTH TEXAS PHOTOGRAPH OF A GROUP OF AFRICAN AMERICAN GENTLEMEN This is just a great original piece. I recently acquired a collection of photographs from important African American photographer Calvin Littlejohn. Littlejohn was known for his important work documenting African American life in San Antonio Texas in the mid 20th Century. I acquired a few photographs of Martin Luther's King trip to San Antonio by Littlejohn that I am not sure I am going to sell yet (if you might be interested, reach out). This is a photograph I have been researching for a while. There is a lot to it. First off, it is a wonderful image of an African American Men's Group. Image measures 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches and is in very good condition. A few very small scuffs but nothing too bad. The men are all wearing the same ribbon but I cannot read any of them so I dont know what the group is. The photograph is on its original cabinet card. In the lower left corner of the card is the stamp of "Bryant Studio 705 1/2 Main Street Fort Worth, Texas'. This is what led me into the research. First, that address was known to be the studio of the Swartz Brothers, the famous early photographers of Fort Worth Texas. Then as I dug deep into their history I learned that they were known to advertise heavily in the African American papers to court their business. Then as you dig even deeper you learn that the last remaining brother, John, sold his business to George Bryant in 1912 and then went to work for him. Seems exactly in line with the timing of this photograph and is most probably from right around that period of time and is most likely a photograph by John Swartz. I am sure with even deeper research, you could figure out what this photograph is from and you would really have a treasure. Original mount card measures 12 x 13 3/4 inches. If you collect African American photography, check my store for the others I am offering this week. FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES! CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE.
