This book, which accompanies the exhibition African-American Artists 1880-1987: Selections from the Evans-Tibbs Collection, looks at the effects of Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance, the Federal Works Progress Administration, and the civil rights movement, to name a few, as potent forces that have shaped black artists and the art they have created.
