The medal is for the 440 yd run (now known as the 400m). The medals once belonged to an African American athlete named 'Nathan George' who competed between the mid 1920's to the mid 1930's on the East Coast and in California. Track medals from HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) of this era are scarce. This being a Dieges & Clust GOLD FILLED medal makes it still more desirable.
