The medal is for the 'relay race' (probably the 4x400 / 'mile relay'). The medals once belonged to an African American athlete named 'Nathan George' who competed between the mid 1920's to the mid 1930's on the East Coast and in California. Track medals from HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) of this era are scarce. This being a J.V. Mulligan GOLD FILLED medal makes it still more desirable.
