Rare Original French 18th Century Tardieu l’ainé Copper Engraving "Négresse esclave chargée c'um Poids attache par una Chaine a sa Cheville". Translation "Negress slave loaded with a weight by chain attached to ankle". Engraving in very fine condition with toning consistent with age. Print plate measures approximately 8.5" X 6". Handsomely framed. Frame measures 12.75" X 15.5" Note: Tardieu l’ainé is a name that refers to a family of French engravers. Nicolas-Henri Tardieu, also known as Tardieu the elder, was a prominent French engraver who was appointed graveur du roi (King’s Engraver) to King Louis XV of France. This is likely the work of Jean-Baptiste Pierre Tardieu (1746-1816). C. 1790
