STUNNING 1860s PHOTOGRAPH OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMAN, SIGNED BY HERAFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMAN’S SIGNED CDV PHOTOGRAPH BY SAN FRANCISCO STUDIO. San Francisco, CA: New York Gallery, 25 Third St. S.F., [circa 1860s]. Original carte-de-visite photograph. Albumen silver print on photographer’s printed cardstock mount (4 x 2 ⅜ inches). Signed by Mary Jane Robinson in pencil, on blank verso. A very striking image, remarkably sharp, on a high-gloss photo stock, with excellent focus and contrast. This CDV came out of an album full of identified Civil War soldiers, politicians, and literary figures. In very fine condition. Mrs. Mary Jane Robinson appears several times in Sacramento, CA directories from 1866 through 1878, and again in Los Angeles directories from 1896 to 1914. They include her various street addresses; one described her as “colored considerably,” listing her occupation as a “seamstress,” and that she was born in New York. She is listed as “Mrs.” but her husband is never identified in the directories, or on ancestry’s site. Hopefully whoever is lucky enough to add this to your collection, will continue to research Mrs. Mary Jane Robinson's life.We have been selling on eBay for more than 2 decades.
