He was associated with the Cotton Club in Harlem, where he was a regular performer and became a popular vocalist of the swing era. His niche of mixing jazz and vaudeville won him acclaim during a career that spanned over 65 years. (Copied) Alphonse Bare worked as a comic book artist in the 1940's, drawing through studios by Binder and Gibson. He drew for Fawcett's "Bulletman", "Captain Midnight" and 'Golden Arrow', and also did funny animal and cartoon festures. For Street & Smith, he drew'Blackstone', 'Doc Savage', 'Red Dragon' and 'The Shadow'.This acrylic on board portrait measures about 18" x 22 1/2" The picture of this portrait was on the cover of a scholastic magazine many years ago.This is an original art painted and signed by a famous artist named "Bare".Similar piece of illustrated art done by "Bare" is on display at Hempstead African-American Museum in Hempstead, Long Island, New York.Suitable for display at home or museum.Alphonse Bare worked as a comic book artist in the 1940's, drawing through studios by Binder and Gibson. He drew for Fawcett's "Bulletman", "Captain Midnight" and 'Golden Arrow', and also did funny animal and cartoon festures. Between 1947 and 1949 he did a syndicated feature called called 'Top Hat'. In the 1960s he was a ghost artist on J.P. McEvoy and John Striebel's 'Dixie Dugan' for the McNaught Syndicate.
